Parliament budget session starts today

Parliament’s budget session will begin today and is expected to end on April 8. Speaker Ram Nath Kovind will address both chambers in the central hall at 11 a.m. Half an hour after the President’s speech, the Lok Sabha will sit for the transaction of business.

According to the Secretariat, the 2021-22 economic study will be tabled by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman in Lok Sabha on January 31, while the budget will be presented by her on February 1 at 11 a.m.

There will be no zero hour or question time in either House of Parliament during the first two days of the budget session.

During the first part of the session after the presentation of the budget (February 2 to 11), according to the press release, 40 hours of normal time will be available for various business such as questions, private members’ business, discussion of the motion of thanks, General discussion on the budget of the Union, etc.

“Bearing in mind the threat posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, elaborate arrangements have been made in the Lok Sabha chamber and other parts of the Parliament complex,” the statement said.

“To ensure social distancing standards, members will be allocated seats in the Lok Sabha Chamber (282), Lok Sabha Galleries (excluding the Press Gallery) (148), Rajya Sabha Chamber ( 60) and the Rajya Sabha Gallery (51), ” he added.

He was also informed that arrangements have been made for vaccination and COVID testing at the complex for MPs and other visitors.
