CAIRO – April 24, 2022: Emanuel Leutze’s ‘Washington Crossing the Delaware’ painting, which has hung in the White House for decades, is set to fetch $20 million when it goes up for auction next month at Christie’s International Auctions in New York.

This painting is one of the most famous paintings in American history and is one of only two copies.

German-American painter Emanuel Leutze’s 1851 drawing of George Washington and the Continental Army crossing the Delaware River during the American Revolution has appeared in the history books of millions of students, on stamps, and even in the borough of New Jersey, according to Forbes.

The painting previously hung in the White House for around 35 years while on loan from millionaire industrialist Richard.

Clement Conger, longtime secretary of state, described the “Washington Crossing the Delaware” painting as one of “the most important American paintings to ever hang in the White House.”

The 40-by-68-inch painting is a smaller version of the roughly 12-by-21-foot painting that hangs in the American Wing of the Metropolitan Museum in New York, where it is one of the most famous paintings by the collection. .
