“This site required a unique series of collaborations to reinvigorate that of Toronto Triangle of junction ”, declared Alfredo Romano, president of values-based developer Castlepoint Numa Inc. “These collaborations have brought a renewed and palpable energy to Auto BLDG and the surrounding community for which it serves as a foothold.”

The restoration of Auto BLDG from concept to completion took five years with a development team that included, among others, the main consultant architectsAlliance, the heritage architect ERA Architects, the environmental engineering firm WSP Global and the Castlepoint Numa lender, Equitable Bank.

“It has been a privilege to work with Castlepoint Numa to revitalize this local landmark and add new cultural and employment uses to a site that has been dormant for a decade,” said Adam feldmann, founding member of that of Toronto architectsAlliance, at the reception of the Brownie, 23 November 2021, during a gala dinner in the city center Toronto. “Auto BLDG’s rebirth laid the groundwork for a transformation of Lower Junction, with more housing, jobs and public space in its future.”

Marlin Spring Investments, Hines Interests Ltd. and Castlepoint Numa continue to invest in the community. Hines is on track to complete two new office buildings with their innovative T3 wood technology. Spring Marlin and Castlepoint Numa will each innovate with residential buildings next year.

that of Toronto Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), the main tenant occupying three of the ten floors, shares the building with a select group of eclectic companies that include advertising agency Junction59, Zeidler Partnership Architects, Pride Toronto and arts group The Toronto Biennial. The Akin collective maintains a studio space for 20 active artists. FuseFX, an award-winning visual effects company based in Los Angeles, move his Toronto studio at Auto BLDG.

In awarding the Rebuild Brownie to Auto BLDG of Castlepoint and the team of consultants led by architectsAlliance, the Canadian Brownfields Network (CBN) noted that Auto BLDG “serves as a role model for other architects and developers to preserve the grounds of. ’employment and significant heritage assets‘. He specifically praised the team for revitalizing Auto BLDG in a manner “complementary and consistent with the original use and character of the building” and for taking care to restore “significantly contaminated soil”.

“The Rebuild category is one of the most competitive and difficult due to the high number of nominations it typically receives, which was also the case this year,” said Chris De Sousa, Chairman of the CBN Brownie Committee and Professor at Ryerson University School of town and country planning.

As part of its Auto BLDG restoration, in 2020 Castlepoint Auto BLDG Inc. acquired and protected a 400 acre forest north of Toronto which offsets 8,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year.
